★★★★★
“My consulting calls have been incredibly valuable but challenging to hear at times. But I’m grateful for Travis’s ability to call it as it is. I’ve been looking for an honest guide to building a successful business — and that’s what this is.”

What does a farm business consultant do?
The strategic advisor to help you make decisions, grow, save & plan.
A farm business consultant acts as the experienced, financially-fluent outsider that helps you make confident business decisions. They analyze markets and trends so you know when to buy, sell or hold. They run scenarios with historical data and predictions to guide you through difficult choices that used to be a coin flip.
At Ranch Right, your farm business consultant has hands-on ranching or farming experience – fluent in livestock cycles, custodial accounts, and how ranch numbers behave year over year. They meet with you on the cadence your operation needs.

Goals, Budget & The Plan
We start with your goals, personal and business, short-term and long-term. Once your books are current and the numbers are solid, we build the plan to reach them.
Ranch Operations & Growth
Then our advisors get into the how: trading decisions, grazing calls, sell/buy marketing, and risk hedges. Data and market analysis drive every move.
How We help:
“We turn uninformed guesses into informed, data-backed decisions.”
Honest comparison
Do you need business consulting for your farm or ranch?
Honestly? Maybe not. If your books are simple, your operation is small, and you have a CPA who knows ranching, you can probably stick with what you’ve got. Here’s how each option stacks up – what each does well, where each falls short, and what each costs.
Ranch Right is built for ranchers and farmers who:
Not for hobby operations.
Ranch Right Farm Business Consulting Services
What’s included, how it works & what to expect.
Three cadences. Pick the one that fits your business model.
Low Frequency
4 meetings/year
Established cow-calf operations, slower-changing businesses, operators who want a structured tax-perspective check-in.
Most Popular
Medium Frequency
12 meetings/year
Multi-enterprise operations, direct-to-consumer, businesses in active transition, inventory turnover month-to-month.
High Frequency
~40 meetings/year
Operations actively scaling, reconfiguring, or going through succession. Available when you need that pace.
“Twelve meetings in a year doesn’t mean one a month. Use them when the calls happen – three in March, one in October, whatever your year actually looks like.”
Six things we cover.
01 · ENTERPRISE PROFIT ANALYSIS
Find out which enterprise is actually paying.
Each enterprise on the operation – cow-calf, stockers, hay, custom grazing, direct-to-consumer – gets its own gross margin in your books. We read the margins every month, name what’s working and what isn’t, and run scenarios on what would change if you scale, cut, or fold one.
Most clients discover at least one enterprise has been quietly bleeding cash.

02 · CASH FLOW PROJECTIONS
Built at the start of the year. Tracked every month.
We set the projections at the start of the year. We track actuals against them every month and flag what’s drifting and why. By October, we know what tax planning to put in motion well before year-end.
03 · SCENARIO PLANNING
Run the partial budget on every big call.
Sell or hold. Buy or wait. Expand or tighten. Add an enterprise or fold one. We run the partial budget on every one so the call gets made on numbers, not feelings.

04 · BANKER PREP
Prepare for meetings with the bank and LOC renewals.
Most line-of-credit renewals are fire drills. We hand you the financials your banker is asking for – banker-ready, cleanly formatted, with the projections & a plan you know can work. Avoid getting denied when you can support it, and avoid borrowing when you can’t afford it.
05 · HR ADVISORY
Help with the people side of the business
Through our fractional HR lead, Emilie Hopson, we advise on the people side of growing a ranch operation: employment contracts, W-2 vs. 1099 classifications, comp benchmarking, hiring strategy, and the “do we bring on a full-time hand or stay seasonal” call. 06 · SUCCESSION SUPPORT
Standardized financials so the family is on the same page.
Real projections on retirement viability, transfer scenarios, and what the next generation can afford to take on. We bring the outside voice when the family conversation needs one.
How it works
Every Ranch Right account is supported by three teams.
The consulting team is what this page is about – but you’ll work with all three.
Books · Bill Pay · Payroll
Your bookkeeping & accounting team
Day-to-day books, bill pay, transaction categorization, monthly close, and payroll if you want it – built on a ranch-specific chart of accounts with livestock inventory and enterprise-level tracking.
Advising
Your consulting team
Strategic decision support, scenario planning, banker prep, succession conversations, and the math behind every big call. On your cadence – quarterly, monthly, or bi-weekly.
Year-round tax
Your tax team
Year-round tax decision support coordinated with your existing CPA, or in-house tax filing if you’d rather have everything under one roof. Tax decisions get made before December 31, not after.

Our Process
From first contact through your first 90 days. Here’s how we handle things.
Step 1. Discovery call.
We meet to discuss your needs, determine if we’re a good fit to work together & agree on pricing & scope.
Step 2. Technical onboarding.
Books access, QuickBooks Online setup, Dext for receipts, starting balance sheet at fair-market value. About two weeks of light back-and-forth on your end.
Step 3. Budget and goals call with your advisor.
While bookkeeping is being built, you sit down with Micayla to map your goals (personal, family, business) and build a forward-looking budget.
Step 4. Full advising cadence begins.
Once your books are clean and current, meetings shift into the rhythm that help you make the big decisions for your operation.
When farm business consultants pay for themselves
Our Clients Results
We pulled the stats on 85 client operations with complete records for 2024 and 2025. Here’s what the data shows.
“Sometimes, when I’m considering a purchase or decision that isn’t totally necessary, I find myself thinking, ‘What are the folks at Ranch Right going to think about this?’ Ranch Right brings a level of accountability I didn’t expect.”
$47K
One Cattle Marketing Call
Held 850-pound steers two weeks past the gut sell signal.
A client in Texas was about to sell when their gut said sell. We ran the numbers and showed them the market wasn’t peaking yet. Net difference: $47,000 on one call.
$31K
One Tax Planning Conversation
Bought breeding heifers instead of a tractor in December.
A client in Idaho was about to buy a tractor for the deduction. We ran depreciation against actual usage – bred heifers deferred income to next year. Net savings: $31,000 in year one, plus a revenue-producing asset.
$186K
One Enterprise Discovery
Stocker enterprise had been bleeding for three years.
A multi-entity ranch came to us with a “good year” on the cow side. After we built the enterprise-level books, the stocker enterprise had been losing money for three years. Net change: $186,000 in unmasked losses, redirected.
Honest about the limits
Here’s what Ranch Right doesn’t do.
Better you know now than after you’ve signed.
We don’t replace your CPA
About a third of our clients use us for their tax filing too. The rest stay with the CPA they already have, and we coordinate. We’re the layer most ranches are missing – not a replacement for tax filing, audit, or legal work.
We don’t do crop consulting or agronomy
If you’re looking for soil testing, pest management, or precision farming, we know good people and we’ll point you to them. That’s not what we do.
We don’t promise overnight results
Onboarding takes 30 days. Most clients start seeing real value at month two. Strong year-over-year impact shows up at month nine. If you need someone who promises miracles in the first call, we’re not them.
We don’t lock you into long-term contracts
Month-to-month. If we’re not earning the fee, you walk away. We’ve earned 98% client retention by being worth it – not by signing people into multi-year deals.
